Acrylic, chalk and pencil on canvas
The creation of "Plumbing the Depths" followed an animated discussion of the changing themes of goals according to age, from decade to decade over the course of a lifetime. The tightly knit, uniform communities of youth with which we insulate ourselves in formative years give way to individualistic ambitions and dualistic relationships of adulthood. Similarly, in "Plumbing the Depths," changing colors remain a coherent spirit as they progress from left to right, culminating in a shining handle of copper paint gripping the edge. This painting is the artist's most personal work to date, and has been described by a fellow artist as a "surrealist Rothko."
