THE REEF

At the recommendation of The Endless Bummer , I scooped up a ticket to a rare live performance of The Reef. The documentary film screening was accompanied by the Australian Chamber Orchestra at the 92nd Street Y as part of their Seeing Music Festival.

My attention flowed seamlessly from screen to stage and back. Sound waves echoed light, and I felt pulled into the barrel both by low toned bassists and by the closing out of the wave. When the performance concluded, we were left wondering if sound had accompanied vision or the other way around. Predictably, my favorite moment of the evening was an Alice In Chains cover of "Them Bones" with the orchestra in full force. To boot, it was my first time seeing a didgeridoo played live! Keep it up, 92nd Street Y. For more information about the collaboration and USA tour dates, visit the Australian Chamber Orchestra's official website.
